Philanthropy

For the past two years, the Theta Psi Chapter has organized a program called Pike Presents, designed to bring Christmas joy to the children of the Orangewood Children's Home.

The Orangewood Children’s Home is the only emergency shelter for neglected and sexually, physically or emotionally abused children in Orange County, California. The Home provides refuge for around 2700 children each year who have been taken from their caretakers and placed into protective custody. Orangewood houses children ranging in age from just days old to eighteen years old, and can house over 200 children at any given time in their hacienda-style cottages. The Home shelters these children for periods ranging from a few days to a few months and provides them with numerous amenities including a fully equipped gymnasium, softball field, game room, basketball courts, pool and toddler pool. The Home also has a branch of the Orange County Public Library system, medical facilities, and an on-site K-12 preschool and school.

The service and care that the Orangewood Children’s Home provides is unmatched and immeasurable. It is imperative that we do everything possible to help bring stability to the children of Orangewood during such uncertain times in their lives. We often forget how privileged our lives truly are, however with privilege comes responsibility. We, the members of Pi Kappa Alpha, believe that it is our responsibility to do whatever we can to bring Christmas joy to the children of Orangewood.

In the past two years, Theta Psi has raised over $8,000 through generous donations from friends and family of members of the fraternity. With the money, we buy presents for all of the children at the Home, and deliver them at a party we host on site.

In addition to Pike Presents, the Theta Psi Chapter has participated in numerous philanthropy programs. Airbands, an annual lip-syncing competition hosted with the women of Gamma Phi Beta, raised over $3,000 each of the last two years for Camp del Corazon, a non-profit organization that provides year-round experiential opportunities for children faced with the challenges of growing up and living with heart disease.

The Theta Psi Chapter also put together Easter baskets for the children at the CASA Youth Shelter in Los Alamitos, California, which provides temporary shelter for runaways and youth in crisis.
